Oh, good lord. We do not even know how memory is stored, much less how to over-write it. These people are LIARS and scammers. Their shit will not work, except as torture. And since they’re relying on software that hallucinates and can’t even count, this proposition is worse than lobotomy.

Isn't that the point, though? It: A) gets them grant money or whatever to "experiment" while they B) basically legally torture Awful Criminals that Deserve To Be Tortured. After all, we know that everyone in prison needs rehab and nobody is ever put in there on BS charges like smoking weed.

I think we should be glad it doesn't work, because that is a profoundly terrifying concept, holy fuck.

Its the most hilarious nonsense. There isn't even a WHIFF of a technology that could approach anything like this, and there won't be for the foreseeable future. Anyone who funds them is a rube.

Nightmare fuel if it succeeds. Nightmare fuel if it fails. Because sure as shooting, someone out there will buy into the woo and put prisoners into the damn thing.

One of my fave memories of undergrad was one of my psych profs telling the class a story of when he was in a biopsych lab and he was being a smart-ass about more philosophical psych concepts and his professor then asked him to point to the part of a brain that is connected to memory. Not possible.

I find it far more likely that people will die of various strokes/complications than this ever working. And to the extent that it even could work, morally it makes no sense. I don't see how a murderer having a memory of "what it's like to be murdered" is going to do anything but cause trauma.

Continuum (obscure gem of a sci-fi TV show) examined potential ramifications of similar technology. It did not end well.
