Really what you are painting here is exactly not what you say you are painting. You are painting a yellow news story akin to “Remember the Maine” while saying that it’s being instigated by close Biden staffers.

The need for the President to get out there and do some interviews is not at all hard to discern, and that he has not, is really the most telling thing. Either he is indeed unreliable or his political advisers are terrible and either way he needs to relinquish it to Harris.

One thing I'd add about the "shifting dynamic" around Biden's age is that many of these stories share a chronology: recent "weeks and months"/"since the previous fall"/"since last summer." There's reason to blame staffers, but as anyone with old relatives knows, the decline can be out of the blue.

I am baffled that his senior staff thought it smart to put him on a rapid-fire quiz show. Thinking fast, with stereotyped, reflexive responses, is hardly a measure of what makes a good president or even a good candidate, IMHO. Anyone could have predicted it wouldn’t work with Biden. As for Trump …

I didn't want to buy into these critiques of Biden, who still clearly isn't as far gone yet as, say, Dianne Feinstein was while still holding onto her Senate seat with what turned out to be a literal death grip. But the echoes of accounts of Feinstein near the end are getting louder, unfortunately.
