What a cluster? My dad spent so much time the last few weeks getting renovation done in his house while my mom was away visiting family. She comes back this weekend, but we noticed a large water ring on the ceiling of his office. He had a new shower installed in the master bath...

It's unfortunate that the flashback episodes of THE ACOLYTE are the weakest ones of the series. Especially this last one. Loses all the momentum gained by the last 2-3 episodes for sure. Motivations just make zero sense in this one. But I'm still going to eat up the finale next week!!

About a month ago I developed a pain in my shoulder/neck area: annoying but manageable. Doc gave me muscle relaxers, but they make me sleepy so only take them at night. Now the pain has traveled down my shoulder to my upper arm: it hurts to use a keyboard/mouse. I'm just getting old. Sigh.

Saw an article the other day that GLOBALFOUNDRIES has hundreds of jobs, but didn't seem that way on their website. I mean, there were a lot but not "hundreds". Their issue was finding young engineers to live in the middle of nowhere in Upstate NY. Samsung Austin had them beat in that department.

So it looks like Samsung Austin is back to hiring again. They made about 18 generic reqs asking for engineers (as of this morning). All the job titles are generic, though, so you have to click on each one to find something that you think might be of interest to you.

Haven't caught up with social media today, but I guess Spectrum Cable/Internet shit the bed today. I left work early b/c no internet. And getting home the cable is still out. Thankfully the homeowners have AT&T internet, and I have Google Fiber in my office.

While I feel for our brethren on the Texas Gulf Coast, those of us in Central Texas, once again, have not a drop of rain from a passing hurricane. Doesn't even really seem all that windy either. Only good thing is a slight drop in temps to 91.

Insta served me up an ad for a really cool product. Clicked on it & read reviews. About 99% were from some influencer website from folks that got the product free, all 5-star. The 1, 2, & 4-star reviews were not influencer reviews calling the 5-star reviews dishonest. Really unfortunate.

Talking to some other folks, I've been told I really need to go to HR. Apparently it was the new policy that folks that were hired to be completely remote can stay remote. My boss's counter to that was that my role changed. But if that were the case, where's the $$$ for all the time/gas spent?

Talked to my boss about this. They will definitely NOT be ready for us in Sept. He told me that it's more important for some of the other positions to be onsite (Planners and Prod Mgrs for 1) than myself. Well, considering I feel like I add zero value to being onsite...

Been spending more time on Reddit lately, and my new fave sub has to be LinkedInLunatics. I really hate LinkedIn so much but feel I have to be there to find something new. I envy all of my friends who don't feel necessary to be on there at all. Must be nice feeling comfy about their job.

Tonight's AMC Screen Unseen was FLY ME TO THE MOON. I really enjoyed, but I'm a sucker for 60's era space race-type movies. I love nearly all of them. My only complaint: too long. I thought it was over at 1 point, but then it just went on for another 20 minutes. Definitely funny and fun.

I'm always fascinated the the "level" of birthday coupons. Red Robin gives you a free burger which can range in price from $10-20. Popeyes gives you a free apple pie which is $2. One of these is definitely NOT like the other!

Very funny. All of a sudden nothing seemed to be working correctly on my work laptop at home. I decided to restart it. Turns out the shift key on the keyboard I had connected to it at home was stuck in the down position. Didn't realize it until I tried entering my username and password to log in.

Took my first college mid-term in nearly 30 years yesterday. 50 questions, multiple choice, all online. Had to use a "Lockdown Browser" that somehow kept you from opening any other programs. Didn't try while I was taking the test. Immediate grading; wasn't happy but I still have an A in the class.

Weird holiday week. My employer went w/ just giving us Thurs off, not Fri. Last year we got Mon & Tues off for the 4th. But we do get Veteran's Day off in November! Guess that was the trade-off? Most folks taking Fri off, but I'll work it...or at least I'll be around my computer anyway.

Really enjoyed A QUIET PLACE: DAY ONE. I was pleasantly surprised by the tension, the really moving story that drove the movie, and the NYC setting. I had a couple of nitpicks, but overall not that important compared to how good the movie is.

Seen some discussion about child labor in various states in the last year (or more). I wonder about the folks that clean movie theaters over night. Sometimes they bring kids, and sometimes those kids are helping out: picking up trash, that sort of thing. Anyway, something I thought about tonight.

I finally finished the last few episodes of FEAR THE WALKING DEAD the other day. I guess I was just being a completist. That show was just incredibly terrible. Just glad it's over. I will eventually catch up with the other TWD spin-offs as well. I like pain, I think.

Think I screwed myself pretty good by NOT going to NYC as planned last week. I canceled my JetBlue flight & received a credit, but JB has sheet for flights out of Austin to just about anywhere. Spent about an hour looking for something, anything! But nope. Actually any JB city out of Texas sucks! ☹️

Saw this feedback from our class last night: "Fewer breakout rooms and more full class collaboration would be helpful." As a TA, really hate breakout rooms unless it's to help a student out directly w/ something. We do 4-5 breakout sessions a night w/ this instructor, and that's too much.

It's funny: I haven't ever followed college baseball before. Then of course A&M was in the CWS Finals. Now the damn coach leaves for Texas. So I guess I'm back to not caring about college baseball anymore. When's the college basketball season start again? November can't come fast enough!

Yeah, this is the same error I got when they first posted the link to buy tickets a couple of weeks ago. It prevented me from getting tickets in the 1st place. Makes me think there are now tickets available, but, for whatever reason, I can't access them.

It would be nice to build a scraper or something that would alert me when a seat became available. The scraper I can do; how to determine when a seat is available, idk. There has to be a way, though, w/o getting booted off. But don't get me started thinking too much about it.

FWIW, I'm feverishly refreshing the MAXXXINE with Livestream Q&A Drafthouse ticketing site for tomorrow night. When it was 1st announced the site didn't seem ready for me to pick a seat and pay. When I checked later that day it was sold out. I'm hoping someone cancels!

That place used to be pretty awesome in the late aught's, early 2010's. I did go once a few months ago at the tail end of happy hour/early dinner. It, too, was not all that busy, but it did have a lot more waitresses working at the time I was there.

They really put it in a weird location so far from the TAMU campus. But, then again, Twin Peaks is in the same area, and the 1 time I went there it was packed. I just don't like the food at TP; rather have the wings at Hooters. The TP Facebook page suggests that the Lewisville Hooters closed too.

Not surprised about the Bryan, TX location near Texas A&M. I would go there to watch other college basketball games when I was in town for TAMU MBB games. It was sooo dead. Like 1 bartender, 2 waitresses dead. And usually 1 of the waitresses was on her phone most the time.

It's a bit funny that online job applications now list "preferred name". Actually my application to UNT Grad School also had that option. I use it so they were able to create my edu e-mail address with my preferred name instead of my full name. It's a pain to have to go through IT after the fact.

Talking to one of the engineering managers at the plant. There will still not be space to bring back everyone 3 days/week even by the week after Labor Day which is the target date for this RTO crap. I just don't see how this will happen at all. But I'm still looking for something else if possible.

Drum Corps starts up this week, and I'm lamenting the idea of not seeing any of them until San Antonio in about a month. Then thinking, when was the last time I was in SA? Turns out it was a year ago for DCI SA. Rather remarkable. I used to fly to SA about 4-6x per year when I lived in NY!! (1/2)
