I don't know where I read it but "abusers spend as much time grooming their character witnesses as they spend grooming their victims" has really stuck with me

Still, at least it lets everyone know that there are still Cryptographers working at Necropolis U, Hadesville TN -- last I heard, that department was under threat.

No. Nice one. This kind of thing is significantly tougher for people who are financially supporting others, and/or struggling to pay the rent, so I wouldn't automatically hate on everyone who does it, but it's def the right thing to do if possible.

I think we should keep the legacy nuclear going as long as possible, but it's not worth flinging new money there when we could spend it on wind, solar and storage.

Massive overcapacity in the battery production sector means dumping. And dumping means cheap grid-scale storage. Nuclear is dead, fossil fuels will be tipped over by any carbon tax.

This is true, but 'JP gets a sock full of sand [a classic home made cosh option] to the head' is actually pretty hard core.

Pushing a small percentage of the gross towards the lowest tier of local government would help too. £10k pa is a lot for a parish council.

I am being a bit smug over this one because (despite being but an undoxxable road in NW England) I know enough about this process to have called bullshit on the claims. OTOH it gives us a Byline Times author to be wary of, so all not lost.

Tens of millions of pounds have funded UK 'Political Science' departments over the last 15 years, and all the while, the most perceptive and accurate commentary has come from a bored office manager in Fife.

The candidate or their agent needs to hand over some of the forms in person. So someone's got to exist. Parties nominating a fictitious candidate would be vulnerable: a 'tissue of lies' candidate would only be possible if an Independent.

Whoever signed the form! Proposers and seconders almost certainly aren't liable. The witness to nomination might be, and the party nominator (authorised person who says 'this is our candidate') might possibly be, if they knew the candidate was fictional.

Signing off on a false statement on nomination papers is a specific criminal offence, though. And, the fact that it's easy for amateurs to stand prevents politics from being completely stitched up by incumbents.
