I love how roots and rocks get velveted in green. I see these cottony clusters almost everyday when it's wet enough. I wanted to preserve the moment before the sun dries this all out. I got a lot of strange looks as I was squatting to take these photos!

I'm not a re-reader, but HoS is so dense with Big Ideasβ’ that I felt I would find more to love, like a 60,000-year chase in which every second matters. Though the main characters lose agency halfway through, it's a compelling epic of deep time.

Book Club choice for April. My first #WH4k novel or Tchaikovsky, but a good intro to both. Seems like a clear good vs. evil plot at first, but neither the ostensible "villains" nor "heroes" are so flat. Recommended.

Thanks to book club, I noticed a small trend in 2010s sci-fi lit. Ancillary Justice (2013), A Closed and Common Orbit (2016), All Systems Red (2017) β Cyborg protagonists with neurodivergent behaviors; vocal stimming, sensory processing sensitivity, introversion, difficulty making eye contact, etc.
