There’s actually a very easy safeguard against accidentally supporting music industry plants, which is going to Bandcamp, looking up a genre you like and buying a record from a really great band or artist who is ≈75% likely to currently be working a day job

There's this widespread misconception among the public that the housing shortage is caused by like, a shortage of building materials, I think because the actual explanation that the thing is short supply is "permission to erect a building" is too stupid-sounding to feel like it could the real reason

I don't think Bon Iver is going to reconsider support and Justin Vernon can withstand a little heat, but I think the message this effectively sends to smaller artists, people who COULDN'T withstand that hit, is: "it's safer for you to do nothing than to do what we consider insufficient"
