Everything I hate about electric cars is what I hate about modern iPhones and smartphones. If they were more like petrol cars in construction - they might be better. Even PC's. I've patched and swapped so many random parts on my car to keep it running.

RX8 gone in for engine rebuild. Was running fine with no faults. The way I see it is, it's cheaper than buying a second hand car and will result in a more reliable vehicle than the second-hand cars I can actually afford. Owned it for ten years, lol

I took more than this. But - the downside of using gear older than I am is that sometimes I get it wrong. And you don't know until it comes back.

It's always a fun little experiment in an digital world.

A few heads got shave - *someone* should've read the manual first before giving it a go.

Still - the surprise, the excitement, and the disappointment is half the fun of using film, isn't it?

Half the fun of using older equipment - or all the fun for us basement dwellers - is figuring out how it all works together. Finding and assembling all the accessories, plugging them in and seeing what this thing actually does.
Perhaps there was some ritual purpose to it all, after all

I've set up an eBay alert for these under a certain price. One popped up I might have ten more if I go to Kaizokucon. If. Thats either ten more cosplayer photos. Or - maybe - 9 and, if I can encourage someone else to take the tenth shot of me. I've only ever been photographed twice at a con...

Getting to see people's reactions when the pack was opened was worth it.

Sadly, it's not something I can ever do again. The packs are out of production. (And I lost the adapter I had for them in the Travelodge while running out the door >,<)

There were only ten shots in the pack in total. And ten is all I'd ever have.... the specific pack type is long gone out of production. There was a little wizardly magic in the moment where the pack is peeled apart and the image is revealed.

Any cosplayers attending Akumakon interested in a little technoarchaeology? I'd like to experiment with how things used to be done before digital was a thing. I've one last cartridge of instant film. Not an official photoshoot. And I can't ask for money because I can't guarantee it'll work.

An imitation of what wouldve been (half) a professional setup from the early/mid 80s or so. Going to bring it to akumakon and see what happens. There's exactly ten shots of instant fujifilm and no guarantee the expired film will work. I'll never be able to get any again either.....

I had a weird dream last night about a film Brendan Gleeson coaching Colin Farrel to be a good crime/murder mystery novelist ... ...the twist being, Gleeson is writing what he knows. Even if it's been a long time - there're some very dark skeletons in the past. That'd probably be a good film

The results, however, are stunning. Normal 35mm film frames are already twice the area Hollywood deems sufficient for a film screen. It makes images larger than an IMAX film frame. Large enough to be blown up to billboard size. It still blows the socks off digital for pure resolution.

It's be fun to emulate.... A sort of technoarchaology But I've none of the other equipment needed like lighting or backdrops, and no real idea how to use them if I did. It's not something I've ever done And the cost of material would be so damned prohibitive....

In the time before digital, a quick Polaroid shot was used to verify that everything was set up correctly, everything would work and give feedback on what the developed result would look like.
Then swap the Polaroid back for a standard film back to take the final money-making shot

This things a true 'Professional' device. Fascinating how it works
Unfortunately they stopped making the film packs 7 years ago.
On pack alone cost me 70 quid for ten shots....
