All of which to say, my sci-fi mind often flits to those Bronze Age humans, walking in the now-lushly-forested hills of Yucca Mountain, Arizona, tens of thousands of years from now, and not having any clue why their deep water wells are making everyone vomit all the time. 6/

And those were written in a shared tongue! And probably were set up only 3-8 generations earlier! So they represent sorta the best-use-case of communicating a danger warning through time. And they still often didn’t work! 5/

Far more than it should, my sci-fi brain thinks about that message that Sandia National Lab proposed to carve in granite near nuclear waste, trying to warn humans 10,000+ years from now that they’re near radiation danger. (Stonehenge is ~4,000 years old). Along w physical warnings, it would say: 1/

Today I learned about “Betteridge’s Law of Headlines” From Wikipedia: “Betteridge's law of headlines is an adage that states: "Any headline that ends in a question mark can be answered by the word no." It is named after Ian Betteridge, a British technology journalist who wrote about it in 2009”

Welp, just deleted all my Instagram comic posts. A.) Insta made it impossible to link followers off that walled garden…either to Kickstarter or Patreon or to buy a book. B.) That was getting progressively worse. C.) So this new AI scraping is just sorta the terrible icing on a terrible cake
