Got a show cooking for Wednesday, August 14 at Visible Records: Joseph Allred + Raven Bauer Durham + probably one more TBA. Joseph is always wonderful live, & Raven is one of my favorite regional musicians that I get to see semi-regularly. This will be a very pleasant and excellent night of music.

A funny thing I think to myself when hearing various things is "huh, that sounds pretty corny." I don't actually believe that anyone even uses the word "corny" any more, but somehow this is what I land on. I also desire for my own music to not sound corny hah hah. This is the only bar I try to clear

I understand, & don't really begrudge artists & labels doing it too much. One could write endlessly about how to promote music/art without feeling weird about it & never land in a good spot with it. These are just my personal takes on it.

I understand that I am probably not in the majority here, & I understand people wanting to advocate for art/music on a day that might help them a little more than usual. I just don't like propping up the company by using the slogan. I mean I also try not to wear clothes with logos/labels hah hah.

It is not unreasonable for people to try to get a small bump, sure. My point is that everyone knows why people do it on those days, and there is no need to use the phrase and rep for the company. My suggestion is that it is easy not to do it and get the same benefit.

I understand that for labels and people really trying to make stuff work this day can help buffer the ridiculous cost of doing this stuff, but still, seems OK to drop the branding completely yeah? Just reads as lame after letting so many people go and scaling it back to rep for it.

Lol, for some reason I wondered when the next B*ndc*mp Friday is just because my brain went there (hadn't seen one in a bit). Guess it is in September, which means what, 4 a year or so? Wonder how low it will have to go (one a year, two a year) before folks stop trotting it out as a selling point.

I'm sure that was something. Obviously these ghouls are among us (I had to fight the urge to go crash a Feder@list Society thing at Three Notch'd I walked by last year), but in D.C. you really get the experience of understanding hardcore, self-righteous chuds in business casual are everywhere.

I used to have to walk by the Herit@ge Found@tion frequently when I worked in D.C. (well, I could've avoided it by taking the long way sometimes, but yeah). I would always stop for a few minutes & just watch who came in & out of the building to clock who these fucks might be. I do not miss it.

I've received about 20 emails telling me the fate of the country relies on me voting. Meanwhile not a single thing has been done in response to actions this week except a little speech suggesting we vote more. This kind of messaging is just depressing & I am not sure why it isn't understood as such.

All I have to say about it really is: find the people in your community who are doing things of meaning, that make a difference, & help them. Rally around the good people & causes locally, put your effort in there, & trust that it makes a difference. Not sure what else to say. Lots of people suck.

I had one of the best weeks I've had in recent memory. It would actually take many posts to express all of the ways in which it was personally great for me & my friends. That is tempered by hearing multiple difficult things today about both the larger political arena as well as a very personal one.

In listening back to live video of our Radon Abatement set from last weekend, I hear myself getting a guitar sound I've maybe been chasing for a few decades hah hah. It is not *exact* but it is close enough. I should probably just stop playing guitar (or at least rock guitar) and go out on a high.
