It’s beyond obvious Bezos did not buy the Post to save the institution or because he respects journalism. Without feeling it in the slightest he could transform that paper into the greatest investigative newsgathering operation in history. And that alone betrays his petty, petulant intent.
Oh, he definitely bought it as part of a failed attempt to be the big bad billionaire of DC. It was at the same time as his whole HQ2 thing where he had a bunch of DC counties compete against each other for the privilege of hosting HQ2.
He could have given every Amazon employee the best healthcare possible, a living wage, a fully funded pension, a shorter work week, free college for kids, and shares in the company.
He could have been the most beloved capitalist EVAR, and he'd STILL have 9/10ths of what he has now.
He didn't.
Beyond that, the Post wouldn't have just fired Sally Buzbee and replaced her with the Committee to Reelect Donald Trump unless that's exactly what Bezos wanted.
