When Trump tweeted out what became the transgender military ban with a 17-minute gap between tweets, I was on the phone with someone on the JCS. During the lag, we debated if we'd feel it if he nuked North Korea.

True. There are multiple things going on at once & many folks involved aren't seeing this at all, which only makes their actions more chaotic & for many, self-defeating.

The Constitution actually has a really tried and tested mechanism for dealing with presidents dropping dead on the job. Or even before they've really started it. You know what it's having a hard time with? Would-be autocrats no one seems to be willing to rein in

Worse. No clue that THEY might be part of the problem. These are the folks who've repeatedly failed to invest strategically where hardworking unpaid/underpaid activists have been begging for help. They've let crucial state parties wither, not even considered building grassroots media, etc, etc, etc

The media will not save us. (That being said, the fact that Trump felt the need to disavow Project 2025 at all is progress. And this won't be the end of iif we don't let it.)

2012 was particularly egregious. Project REDMAP delivered gerrymanders in 7 swing states that were near 50/50 but gave GOP a 2-1 advantage. Mother Jones spotted this immediately, but political scientists wallowed in denial, said it was just rural vs. urban geography.

At best it lasted from 1965-2000. Even then we had widespread gerrymandering, Senate malapportionment, unequal voting access, Jim Crow ex-felon voting bans, etc. 7 of 12 elections since 2000 have seen Republicans win one or more of the presidency, Senate, or House despite fewer votes than Democrats

It’s important to defeat Republicans so thoroughly they have to tear the party down and rebuild it. It’s good to have two (or more) viable parties, but neither of them can be violent, eliminationist, authoritarian cults of personality.
