Those are all great works, agreed, Shakespeare’s a great example here cuz in its time it was considered low entertainment for peasants, only later after scholars and critics analyzed it was it considered “high” art, all I’m saying is these categories are ultimately pretentious and meaningless

watch it again, the movie clearly suggests it’s the interaction with the monolith that inspires humans to start using tools, they were violent before this they just lacked the means to beat their enemies. The Cut from the bone to the spaceship is a direct reference to early tools as the linch pin

just remembered a time in 2002 when me and a buddy went to some party full of people we barely knew. he brought a tape of the final episode of politically incorrect from the night before and insisted we watch it. afterward he said "listen, i'm sorry if it was boring but this show meant a lot to me"
