Oscar nominations are never the be-all-and-end-all, but it's still bizarre that you could easily make the argument that Donald Sutherland and Shelley Duvall were two of the absolute avatars of 1970s cinema — its oddities and eclecticism and greatness — and neither received a single Oscar nod.

This is as true in architecture/ retrofit/urban design as it is in any other industry. The tell on your character and decency is not that you were deceived. The tell is what you do when the deception is revealed. (Though often things also hide in plain sight - you just need to look).

I think all the time about the interviewer who asked Meryl Streep “how did you not know about Weinstein” and she was like “I didn’t know because he NEEDED me not to know” it isn’t a character flaw to have been deceived by someone who is a deceit expert cultivating the cover of your faith & goodwill

So they do good things for people sometimes & they charm, to buff up a fragile ego & reinforce this story to themselves & world: they are One of the Good Ones

I was just saying to a friend, someone who was horrified by a prominent person’s wretched behavior (but this individual was fine/good to my friend)—I said, “never forget, these people choose the targets of their generosity & goodwill & appreciation as carefully as they choose their abuse targets.”

Totally hear all that. I am not a purist about native plants (in part because Hawk Moths LOVE lantana etc & I love those critters a LOT). I love seeing a lot of diff bees & they do love Midwest natives but lots of other stuff too! So many different kinds of bees in my yard and they're all so cool!

This is one the parts that makes me scream the loudest—even if you are deeply capitalism-pilled, the guy is disaster. The only person that this is working out great for is Zaslav, who’s made $1 billion+ off of tanking media companies for more than a decade.

WBD's stock price has tanked ~78% since David Zaslav was announced as CEO— $32.68 on 05/19/21 to $7.32, today— to say nothing of the brand loyalty, goodwill, & creative talent he's destroyed. It is amazing & genuinely horrifying that anyone could fail this badly, & remain in a position of authority

The lesson seems to be that killing the golden goose is great, as long as you get enough meat off the bone before it rots. Waiting for golden eggs is for chumps, and there's always another goose to buy and kill. Or multiple geese to mash together into a misshapen lump, and then killing that.

Lately, when he's feeling energetic, my husband will say he is "full of bees." I told him that the saying is "full of beans," but according to him, that doesn't make sense. Just now he is attempting to do a task he's put off for a year because he "has the bees" to do it.
