Last weekend in Munich, @bctallis.bsky.social & Aaron Gasch Burnett recorded a live episode of BerlinsideOut at the Pirate Security Conference & had a chat with the audience about renewing democracy, Neo-Idealism, how to defend democracies & why we need a strategic approach. Listen in now!

Thank you Thomas, that’s great to hear. Yes, #NeoIdealism needs a lot of development work - and I’m working steadily on that. Putting out things when I can with the idea that a full general reader (non-academic) book will be written by the end of the year … but that’s ambitious!

You’re rushing to judge far too quickly and harshly. Why, I wonder?

You haven’t been reading widely enough - I have addressed that. But the body of work is a work in progress - I only started codifying it last year even if it’s based on a lifetime of work & experience.
More coming soon but a little patience please. This is a problem with current discourse

He would support that and is on record saying so! We should find better, alternative markets for our defence. There’s a difference between virtue signalling when the effect will be the same whoever supplies & directly supporting illiberal anti-democrats like Saudi.

Looking forward to reading this. Hard but necessary action - although veering into polarizing governing for us not them at times. Good to see som me better decisions - eg head of PISM staying - lately.

#NAFO is the return of repressed courage, decency and moral stature in the West - it erupted at our failure to stand up properly to Russia, for Ukraine, and for ourselves.
It's taking back social media & recovering lost hope.

It is not ‘unfortunate’ that Ukraine is still at war.
- it is a choice we have made by not giving #Ukraine what it needs to win.
We should not ‘wish’🇺🇦 peace in 2024
- we should MAKE IT HAPPEN by giving Ukraine what it needs to win.
Peace comes through 🇺🇦victory
- and so does European security.

Any 🇩🇪 experts dismissing Def Min @PistoriusBoris’ claim that we should be ready to defend against Russia in 5-8 years are also dismissing similar analysis in Baltic States &🇵🇱 (which puts it at 3 years).
Dismissing CEE as hysterical has not worked out well for 🇩🇪 in recent past.

We are in a battle of wills & we shouldn’t be afraid of our own power.
What’s at stake in #Ukraine is the very idea of freedom - something that #Russia & other autocracies fear & want to destroy.
They hope we will tire first. We must prove otherwise
