I skipped Fallout 4 despite being excited to see Boston in a game because I had a lot of anxiety about the 2016 election and did not want to see a bombed out Boston.
I’ve finally checked it out, and while it is really depressing to see Boston like this, I’m finding it to be a lovely game.

I really think a lot of it is a case of missing the forest for the trees. There's so much good stuff in there, especially if you can install the DLCs and treat them as part of the larger whole.

Yeah, the "play as anyone from any era" action-figure vibe of BF2017's Heroes vs. Villains and so on definitely lends itself to the What If? concept

Nice! I wrote a fairly generous review of it, so the director reached out to thank me, and then I wound up interviewing him for kind of a making-of Q&A

In my latest for @ign.bsky.social, I look back at the history of the Star Wars Battlefront series, make the case for why I’d love to see another one in the future, and consider what that might look like in today’s turbulent landscape.

Every time I'm like "I'm gonna play KotOR as a Sith this time," it's always a lie. In 21 years, I've only rolled credits as a dark sider once. It's the weirdest thing

Feeling weird and self-conscious about having this very first-drafty version of a thing out there, but it's really cool to see it spending a fair bit of time on Itch's New & Popular page and getting some traffic, so thank you for boosting. 🙏 Hopefully I can find the energy to polish it up soonish

Does anyone know if there's any official data or writing on the subject of engagement with updates/seasons being higher when they're given a cool name instead of "Season 14" or "patch 2.5"? I could swear I'd read as much, but searches aren't yielding anything. RTs welcome.

I still have yet to try 2042. But BF V and Battlefield 1 were great -- I'd love a sequel to Battlefield 1 (2016) at some point

My new Twine project’s up on Itch today: Astoria, a text game about life in space. It’s a fairly linear, 9,000-word story inspired by Forbidden Planet, Golden Age science fiction, and starfaring games like Knights of the Old Republic and The Outer Worlds. Key art by Kelly Chong.

I wasn't sure if toon shading or outdoor levels would work for Eldritch 2; but even in proxy blockout form, this is starting to feel like how I imagine Innsmouth should feel.

oh damn thank you! it looks rough to my eyes, but i think that's normal immediately after you send out something new with no idea which parts work and which parts are super corny and/or unpolished haha
