At the beginning of the book, Valeria essentially effortlessly slaughters a dozen opponents. Through the first 1/3 of the book it seems like she's basically an unstoppable one woman army. The first major foe to threaten that is a Sellenite. Which also highlights the roles of monsters in this world.
