The inclusion of Monk in D&D/Pathfinder is kind of fascinating because even Paladins have a sort of vague precedent in fantasy fiction but their whole thing is "have you ever seen Kung Fu with David Carradine?"

The story has to be right. Doom is an epic villain, not a side story. The audience has to believe he is the smartest guy in the room easily equal to Tony Stark or Reed Richards and they just haven’t clicked with that yet.

The English word "clue" comes from the Ancient Greek story of Theseus & the Minotaur. Theseus used a "clew" (Old English for 'ball of yarn') to guide him out of the Labyrinth. So "clew" means 'ball of yarn', transformed by the story to its current meaning, 'that which helps solve a puzzle.'
