TIL: the scientific name for the ringtail (Bassariscus astutus) basically means "clever little fox." (The ringtail, it should be noted, is not a fox.)

All the chapter titles are references to works of Frederic Chopin, although I cheated a little with "Theme and Variations." Also the epilogue being a coda is also a little nod of the head to John Scalzi's Redshirts.

Behind the novel: "The Eternal Party" started as a short story, one which I envisioned could lead into follow-on stories. (Ah the naivete of youth.) So it had a subtitle of "Prelude." When it became a novel, I kept the music theme on the chapter titles.
