Because their, “obviously this is terrible and we’re currently reviewing our working arrangements” are going to look increasingly pathetic if they have to say them repeatedly, each time another, “we spoke to woman X who came to us about an incident in Y” story drops.

You know what I think? I think there’s a LOT more. We’ve seen whispers – what people say publicly is likely a fraction of what there is. Palmer herself said “fourteenth this week”. I think the papers are quietly building their stories, and the estates are thinking: best to deal with it all at once.

Hot take: I'm truly not interested in hand wringing over how much people will miss enjoying the books of men who have turned out to be abusers. I'm far more concerned about the missing art that women haven't been able to create/publish because they crossed paths with such men.

Yes, me too. I see too many people say, “terrible thing (I did) has affected me terribly” and I really, really want them to take a little more time to think about how they can help those impacted, beyond just, “I’m sorry”

Over on twitter, my editor Shailja Patel reminded people of my essay Fire to the Grass, about how radical unforgiveness is a useful concept to apply to the news about Alice Munro abetting her husband's sexual abuse of her daughter. This labour is also being done by those talking about Neil Gaiman.

Working your recovery won't solve every problem you have. It doesn't solve every problem I have. But working our recovery does give us our best shot at not letting trauma run or ruin our life. Recovery work is how we keep our old abusers & bullies from continuing to hurt us now.

She did meet with them, but *meeting* with an organisation doesn’t mean you *agree* with them. Politicians have to talk to people they don’t agree with, or even like, all the time. She’s also said this. She seems thoughtful, to me.
