Just gave a nice, practically unused, 25' Stanley tape measure to an undergrad. The level of enthusiasm at this gift was higher than I've seen people react to new laptops, particularly since they're moving. Never underestimate the value of a cleanout find. It may be a treasure to someone else.

This is kickass. I do think the 2017 225th Mint Anniversary Liberty coin should be used as admission test for any coin club. You don't like it, you need to go climb into the dumpster around back for the Special Plenary Session.

I can't say my interactions with the White Men of a Certain Age and Tax Bracket, AKA The Coin Racists, has particularly endeared the crowd to me. You see, "The Hobby Is Dying" but really it's just them. Just not fast enough.

I have been working in one form or another since I was 8, thanks to my parents having a pet store in my childhood and being good enough at math to run a register. I love my job. Helping researchers is a delight, but I’m very tired after 40 odd years of work.

The safety culture in maker circles didn’t shift. It has always been appalling. Older survivors of their own bullshit got “better” over time, but also swamped by a dramatically growing community driven by shitty YouTube channels. Then another tranche with TikTok.

Just remembered the worst party I’ve ever been to, the app YO!, and Robert Scoble all over again. The one sad can of Sprite floating alone in the melted ice bath as the Lone Refreshment.
