Power always asserts its will; that is its purpose. It doesn’t matter who holds it. Ultimately, those who wield power will use it for self-defense even if their original goals were moral and seemingly selfless. Look at the tie between organized religion and the state here and elsewhere.

So much for the right wing’s fealty to originalism. The case that first decided that corporations were persons was decided in the 1870s and was argued on behalf of the RR by a drafter of 14a who lied as to intent of drafters about persons including corporations. Persons used to include all races.
