The best way I can describe doing research for the upcoming SCOTUS term is the way Dan Carlin in Hardcore History describes a French solider getting rotated back into Verdun in WWI. You can smell it before you see it and you know exactly the horror that waits for you when you get to the front.

So... maybe you can see why the argument that the system is going to move at warp speed because it's Trump, and because there's an election coming up, just feels like incredible wishcasting to me. Like, it *could*, but it's not likely. It's just not the likely outcome.

Absent the election, and the defendant, I feel like if I said "The former high ranking public official indicted on August 1, 2023 for obstruction, is not likely to be imprisoned, if convicted, before 2025" most lawyers would say "that sounds about right."

People are talking about a case where *every single* pretrial defense motion that is denied will be appealed all the way up the chain in search of judges appointed BY THE DEFENDANT willing to give their guy the benefit of doubt as if that trial will be "normal" and "speedy."

The DOJ *finally* sued Texas over its cruel and inhumane attempts to injure or drown migrants swimming across the Rio Grande, and its still a weaksauce lawsuit. The Biden administration was supposed to be better than this.
