The Civil War never truly ended. The South lost the military struggle, then a bipartisan coalition of white elites found shared interest and advantage in giving up on Reconstruction and integration, and they've continued to campaign on behalf of white supremacy in the political domain ever since.

For anyone worrying about what Hurricane Beryl did to South Texas Project, I wouldn't. This is a report on Andrew hitting turkey point in 1992 as a Cat 5. The plant was fine. A Cat 1 is extremely unlikely to damage anything important. When I've got time, I'll do a post about why.

I was laughing about that Iranian ship sinking beside the pier, when I realized it's been almost 4 years since we burnt a multi-billion dollar ship damn near to the waterline. Navying is not easy for anyone, including us.

I'd love to see an up to date estimate of what this war is doing to an already collapsing Russian demographic. The people dying are in that narrow bit in the middle. Killing off all the working age people is one way to speed things up.

I spent 2016 telling people not to freak out. That even if Trump won, he couldn't fuck things up all that much. Checks & balances, etc. I was very wrong. Freaking out is the correct response to our current situation. Go for it, freak out a bit. Then, decide how to deal with it & move forward.
