Twitter survivor (arguable). Director, Franchise/Story, Lucasfilm. Author of things, advisor of lore, sketcher of robots, subject of flimsy rumors. Not really here to argue.

Next up in my 1984 SW re-read: Star Wars Word Puzzles. Serious business. (Probably the most dynamic a Mon Cal cruiser ever looked on a cover too).

This reminds me: when coloring affects lore. Mystra seemed pretty human in the 80s. She was green-skinned in the 90s.

Continuing my 1984 Star Wars re-read with “The Final Trap!” the last of the newspaper strips. While I am grateful for Dark Horse reformatting the series to make it more widely available in the 90s (below, right), there’s nothing quite like seeing the wild newsprint colors of the originals (left).

I don't recall there being any Huttese in it. I did look at some of the visuals and offered some notes.

(My biggest consistent contribution to the show is translating Huttese; I'll leave it to you to conclude the likelihood of my role in all this)

Meanwhile, further down the aisle, Hasbro has swivel arm battle grip, robots turning into trucks, and Mattel has Man-E-Faces. Poor Lumat and Romba never stood a chance.

I like the "kids are losing interest in our action figures; let's include coins. kids love coins" thinking of 1985 in Star Wars. "... what if we included stamps?"

Started my 1984 Star Wars re-read with the "Showdown" newspaper strip that ran from Dec. 26 '83 to Feb. 5 '84. It has the distinction of repeatedly calling Dengar "Zuckass," which is very funny.

Weekly drops vs all at once? I’ll go one further. I think TV shows should have dropped their episodes 20 years earlier.

Enough of Ep II and Ep III was done that they were completed and the only venue to show them was Celebration. So the assets exist but as to where they may surface for the public again, I do not know.

Oh the 3D re-release market pretty much collapsed in 2012, so timing worked against this plan. I think people had hoped Titanic and The Phantom Menace would have performed better than they did. And I don’t think the home video 3D market fared any better.

Anyway, if you auto-replace ‘you’re not a true fan’ barbs to ‘haha, you have a greater sense of balance and priorities in your life‘ it makes an already silly situation even funnier.

Go back another 5-10 years and it gets even more constrained. Imagine lobbing an accusation that someone who bothered to dial up to rec.arts.sf.starwars.misc wasn’t sincere. Heh.

Whatever acrimony these message board combatants may have had 25 years ago, there was a tacit acknowledgment that they shared the same interest and maybe the same damage that kept them on message boards. The idea of being a ‘tourist’ was alien because there were no tourists in message boards.

The modern terms have the suggestion of recompense built into them. That’s kind of interesting. That built in skepticism that sincerity has anything to do with it.
