It is a positive. The opportunity to either vote down a ban or legalize abortion in their state will draw democrats to the polls.

The last two elections have shown how all future elections are probably going to be won--going to swing states and getting out the vote. Clooney et al want it to be like 2008 where you simply create the most famous and beloved person on earth.

I think the election is completely winnable and Democrats should just, you know, run a fucking campaign based on ground game. Not hoping for a magic super-popular candidate everyone loves.

-Polling that shows him ahead but ignores margin of error/undecideds/independents -"We don't need to campaign there." -National demographics =/= electoral college demographics (e.g. NY state getting a million votes redder doesn't matter, the suburbs of Atlanta getting slightly bluer does matter)

Voters do indeed say that they think Biden is old & worry about that. Theyve also said extremely consistently post-Dobbs that they are opposed to & worry about abortion bans. Its a framing choice on behalf of news media & their narratives to arg that the former matters more to them than the latter.

Reading a story about the election that casually referred to "Biden's slide in the polls" and it just remains remarkable to me that narrative reporters can just drop stuff like that into copy and never think twice about whether it has any basis in fact.

My craaaaaaaaaazy take is that Biden should stay in, and Harris should campaign as though she will eventually be President.

My read on the last few years has been that blue states are getting more red (like here in CA, where it's mostly rich-Os blaming everything on Gavin Newsom) but purple states seemed to be staying purple or getting slightly bluer.

Like, if the country has gotten redder as a whole; *where* it has gotten redder matters more than the overall figure?

In 2020 one debate was cancelled, and this year the organization that organized them for decades went under because neither Biden nor Trump wanted to work with them; they went with CNN instead. I bet they will not happen at all within one or two cycles b/c the negatives outweigh any positives.

Electoral college and lame duck require a Constitutional amendment to kill. So they will be around until the demographics of the country change. If we don't want debates we can just... not have debates.

Also: Biden has been on camera giving speeches since the debate--there's one the other day where he talks about climate change for 15 minutes. Granted he's on a teleprompter, but Biden on teleprompter is a thousand times more coherent than Trump on teleprompter.

It also makes me feel insane that the rat fuck around Biden’s age and mental capacity is being uncritically spread around by Democrats when Trump is *incredibly obviously* grotesquely mentally incapacitated, in a way that is genuinely terrifying.

That was Trump's problem (and to some degree Bush's problem)--you can find insane people to be Secretary of Defense but the service tends to weed out people so there don't end up being a lot of insane starred generals.

Will those hold forever? Who knows. Trump will probably clear house; he can move top people around, but staffing decisions within the military are not directly answerable to him. Christian nationals are in the armed services but zealots generally do not get promoted.

People are trying to explain to you that it's not a mysterious "somehow." It's "there are cultural and structural practices that exist in the military that do not exist outside the military; the military is culturally different from, say, the police."

And then on top of that, all of Trump's aides at that point were a whole new batch of sycophants and twerps who maybe didn't even have clearance. The military was getting "orders" through random people they had never heard of or seen before.

Draw-down was always in the works, what Trump tried to do was go "Actually, I want it done NOW" and the military was like, "You honestly have no idea how this will fuck everything logistically, right?"

The military is not going to decide to become political servants of the President because the Supreme Court composition has changed. If they decide to become political servants of the President it's because guardrails have come off within the military. That's the OP's point.

No idea what this has to do with your question about the military. Like, if the military sides with him to do harm against Americans on American soil, the Supreme Court or the Speaker of the House is the least of anyone's worries at that point.

No, this is fundamentally incorrect (not just about Biden, but about everything). People see things and then spin them according to what they want to see and believe. "People have eyeballs and earholes" would have prevented Donald Trump from being famous, let alone the President.
