To go with the earlier Regency post, for Footwear Friday I bring you a pair of green silk shoes from the 1810s or 1820s. These are much sturdier than the slippers one might wear to a ball, and even lace over the foot for a better fit. #FashionHistory #19thc #MaterialCulture

Yeah here it is! It’s her Danae from 1612. I may be biased as a co-curator of WomensArt2 but I think there are very few 17thc painters that are more accurate or more sensuous in painting the human form.

That’s a really great painting. I love that so many of them are tricky technical feats as they play with the shadows set off by candlelight 🕯️ as well, Monica.

Yeah I’ve been ignoring the French bicycle 🚴 🇫🇷 ball this week between tennis and football. My sister is here next Friday so we also have to do performative cleaning of our upstairs terrace and a thorough decluttering. Ugh. My least favourite things to do.

Oh that sounds perfect. I’ve got the OK from the physio to bike 🚴 again so I’m going to take it to the market and then cheer for Switzerland 🇨🇭, and then be a neutral, in the football matches. And Canada 🍁 won against Venezuela in the Copa last night. Semifinals now!
