Nothing like the tour for making me feel like biking a very long way. Last week did just under 12miles (pulling a trailer with 1 or 2 kids) and barely finished. But I'm sure a new bike would help my out of shape legs and butt 😅

My family (conservative farmers) hate the federal govt but love those fucking insurance/crp/etc checks. I have a really hard time not getting angry at the "hate the fed" mindset coming from the people who most obviously can not continue their occupation without direct fed intervention.

An individual is easier to control/bribe than groups of individuals within an agency-esp given federal employee ethics rules. Oligarchy can't tolerate the govt telling them to stop polluting/scamming/poisoning but do want a corruptable individual with immunity to extra judicial harm their enemies

I don't think I've ever used a Sawyers. Pumping someone else's MSR or Sweetwater ceramic filter (can't remember which) was sooooo hard. I was beyond excited with katadyn came out with the little bag filter-lighter and no pumping!

The backcountry cabins were stocked with big katadyn gravity filters (20 L or even bigger) but ceramic that you could *gently* scrub when they got clogged. They were amazing. Not backpackable, each filter weighed a couple pounds. I think they were good for thousands of gallons

I have the katadyn gravity filter. I used it for 3 field seasons (20-30 days in the back country each season) for crews of 2-5. You can greatly extend the life of the filter by protecting it from sediment and chunks-rubberband a coffee filter around the filter (or inlet if using a pump filter).

Aaaccckkkk this years plum crop was out of control. We thinned >75% of the fruit that set. But came home from vacation to a bunch of brown fruit. I'm guessing brown rot fungus. Pick off everything with any spots and spray with fruit tree fungacide?

Today we did a kayak adventure with a ranger out of Salt Pond Visitor center. It was the hardest paddle I've ever done. We were paddling into the wind the whole time (it was a loop but the wind had major fuck you attitude). Saw a ton of seals and birds. Can't really feel my shoulders/elbows/wrists.
