My GUESS is that outside of wildfire zones, rowhouses are more hurricane-proof (they stabilize each other), more likely to get serviced quickly in the case of disaster (dense population = faster response), and better insulated (less surface exposure). But also, I know very little about this stuff

One thing that is certainly striking to me is that the rest of the mainstream appears to be relying almost entirely on the NYT to guide the conversation. CNN is leading with a story about an NYT story. NPR "commentary" here is just a recounting of NYT stories.
