It’s a fair point. Not really thinking about this from a left/right angle though - more, I guess, instinctively pro-market vs instinctively pro-state. If he gets a huge majority, he’s going to have a pretty powerful state, even if he doesn’t have much of a tax base to spend.

Here’s a question. If things in the election go the way they’re looking, are we going to see the end - at last - of Thatcherism? I don’t mean capitalism, cos obvs Labour aren’t going to do that, but where markets are always the default solution. Could be a huge change.

Elections tend to be compressed down to one or two key narratives. 2019 was largely ‘stop going on about Brexit’ and ‘don’t make Corbyn PM’. 2024 will be ‘smash the Tories’. As much as I want to see the end of them, it’s a pity that some of what also matters will get missed.
