i had to look up this Vonnegut quote for my newsletter, and it was from this 1995 Inc. piece asking Kurt Vonnegut and Tom Clancy about tech and the future. Vonnegut looks like a genius now and Clancy looks like a complete fucking moron

Don't miss results just in this month from Earth's biggest UBI experiment: 6,000 people in rural Kenya getting cash. Result: lump sum at the start helped more than monthly payments, but both caused so much growth that even neighboring towns got wealthier, healthier, & safer! #ShareGoodNewsToo

super interesting & well-researched article by @phoebebarton.bsky.social in advance of her appearance at Brockton Writers Series on Jan 10. "Small Steps Not Taken: Science Fiction and Moon Landings Before Apollo." brocktonwritersseries.wordpress.com/2023/12/14/b...

i found Harrow a bit frustrating for the first half or so - the concepts were mind-blowing but the narrative voice just not what you're expecting after Gideon - but it pays off brilliantly. those questions you have now answered - more questions are raised - brilliant work-building.

I read the last few chapters & the "short story" of Harrow before starting Nona and was glad I did. I often referred back to the cast of characters listed in the front of Harrow too. I think I'll do a full reread before Alecto.

I usually describe it as SPACESHIPS and LESBIANS and SWORDFIGHTING and NECROMANCY and WEIRD SCIENCE and POLITICAL INTRIGUE and RELIGION/DEATH CULT and DIRTY JOKES.
You're in for surprises when you read Harrow. The series really keeps you on your toes.

i just finished Nona, is it excellent - very Blood of Eden focused, political intrigue/rebellion, with a brand new & super charming narrative voice. i cried a little too. on tenterhooks for Alecto, & pleased to know it will be the final so the series can't drag on long enough to shark-jump.

went to see Marvels and it was in the top 10% of enjoyable MCU films for me, pretty sure that all the flak is gets is because there is nary a white man to be seen.
also saw Poor Things - sans child - and it was super great.

I think there should be mandatory 🔸Made in Prison🔸 stickers on all prison labor products, even if it's just pick & pack (label the box or bag inside). People should be made aware of their ethical choices, even & especially if it hurts a company.

It's not good, but it's an hour and a half, so I give it extra points.

NOW is the time when we establish our holiday traditions. What's our traditional Rest In Pissinger Day meal? Ham & champagne? Chicken fingers & port?? Clam chowder & espresso-tinis??? we must keep the tradition ALIVE (unlike kissinger) (who fuckin died lmaooo)

for some reason i always have a song in my hear these days, & it's either Bo Burnham's All Eyes On Me, Taylor Swift (cos my kid hates her so we play it to make him get out of bed in the mornings) or Oratrice Mecanique D'analyse Cardinale
