A few years ago, Jon Lovett floated a theory that media treats Democrats like protagonists - to be challenged, accounted, and forced to be behave in growth-oriented ways - while the GOP are treated like antagonists - immutable, expected to disrupt, thematic obstacles. Thinking about that a lot.

I line up for a covid jab just as soon as the authorities say I'm eligible for one. You should too, if you can. (I have friends who can't get jabbed because they're immunosuppressed. I selfishly do not want them to get sick.)

Been out for a bit, but noticed that the 2023 data on BLM oil and gas leasing came out today. Biden is keeping it far lower than prior administrations. It's far easier to stop drilling by not leasing than through any kind of action once a lease is issued & a property right created.

I hope you enjoy! Just remember that books 1 and 2 are really one book cut in half, so book 1 has no resolution and is all setup, but book 2 is all payoff and I promise that 2, 3, and 4 all have real endings!

Rereads are amazing for me too. I just reread most of Will to Battle for the new audiobook and it was so intense revisiting that stage, especially for Dominic & Carlyle, also Martin & Sniper. I’m so glad they cast so many trans & non-binary cast members, who are doing the character journeys so 🌋🎉!!

We see this in all stages, from the printing press pamphlet wars of the 1500s, to radical early radio, to the use of the mimeograph/ditto machine by radical groups ranging from civil rights groups & LGBT communities to the KKK.

In research on censorship we call that the Early Adopter Effect, that the 1st adopters of new information technologies always included those who were being silenced under older systems, thus including the most feared voices & making them suddenly disproportionately loud. Undergrad and grad students struggle with citation, including tracking an idea back to its original source. Generative AI can’t and likely won’t ever be able to do this. It’s a huge problem if we care about intellectual property and integrity.

Seoul has 9.6 million people. NYC has 8.3 million.

Seoul has masking and one of the lowest crime rates in the world.
