When I was a young doc, we had a retired Gen in sick call, pulling rank to be seen. We triage patients but usually take them in the order they show up My NCO, a former cop, quietly said “You know what we call a retired general? Mister” He got taken to the back, but seen after all others

I had an attending who, in review of a diagnostically challenging case, remarked: "Yep, life sucks" Followed by: "But I get up, get dressed and come in to work ... again" I didn't know what to say, so I just nodded & went back to the patient. Last I heard, he quit & moved to a cabin with a farm

The vast stupidity is astounding in both scope and breadth. I for a while could not fathom how she existed & supported herself. She's married to George Farmer, who is worth about $250M with an annual income of about $40M.

Food posts have been driving me nuts - we've been remodeling the kitchen down to the bones and have not had a stove for a month. It has been sandwiches for a whole month - not that I mind, but I would love to make some pasta (with pesto!) again.

There's no one in healthcare that did not see this coming: - They were in a race with CVS and Rite Aid to saturate the market (narrator: No one wins) - They made VERY poor investments (Theranos, Village MD, etc). - They strayed so far off mission they could not sustain core business. Sine die

This is the nature of living with others. - My wife is totally grossed out cleaning bathrooms. I do it. - I am bored with the tedium of managing the household finances. She does it - She hates cooking and grocery shopping. I love it and take care of it ... etc You figure it out and make it work.

Did not have roundabouts where I grew up in the Midwest. Driving into Boston @ age 16, getting off exit at 9 PM. Mom & Dad, asleep. Seeing a HUGE yellow flashing sign "Roundabout Ahead" - then another Me: Dad! Me: Dad!!! Me: Dad, wake the F#$% up! First use of that word in front of parents

While in my setting, it is now optional to mask, I have never stopped as I have adult responsibilities - 10 employees who cannot afford for me to get sick. - The others in my home have had COVID and I managed not to this entire time. I have a responsibility to them to keep it that way.

Make the orzo night before, add the 1/2 the dressing so it flavors overnight. Stir a few times to blend the dressing. Take orzo out to let it come to room temp, toss in the veggies then prep the protein. This time of year grilled salmon would also be great - or over arugula, top with scallops!

Same state is not an option due to the 12th amendment: "The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves" Way to many electoral votes in CA to lose them all

I have lived in indigenous regions and practiced in tribal owned healthcare facilities. The history has been horrific. These changes, moving to more tribal determination & self-governance are long overdue. What I am missing is, if I read the article correctly, these schools are on tribal lands?

I had one as a rental for a week about 5 years ago. For me, it was just uncomfortable to enter and exit due to how low the seat is with my height. That’s not just Tesla, but low sedan - it is a non-starter for me I found the screen stuff just too distracting Yes, it seemed cheaply made

The hardest part is letting them learn from life when you feel like stepping in. Only once ever did I pull aside a friend & let them know they were not a healthy part of my daughter's life. Given the choice their well being or my daughter's, I chose my daughter's.
