Results so far are a little surprising! "Raktajino powered jamaharon machine" and "Attack and dethrone God" are tied for first with 54 votes. Seven showed an early lead but ended up slightly behind with 51 votes, followed closely by Benny with 48. Hugh is trailing with 10.

I know her books were really important to a lot of people, and very genuinely I do not mean to shit on them. That whole phenomenon hit just a little bit late for me but if that had been different I would very likely been super into it. But her writing has really never been very good.

Oh, yeah, "unfamiliar" was probably too much of a euphemism on my part. I meant that he has a name that reads as 'foreign' or 'other' for a huge segment of the US population, including those who see that as a good thing as well as those who see it as bad.

I'm curious why you frame it that way. I mean, it was the same event, but from my perspective it seems like Romney losing wasn't as much the issue as the fact a Black man with an unfamiliar name, and who ran as a progressive, won.

I'm not an expert but it does look from my perspective like conservatives were broken well before that, and what 2020 did was to break establishment liberals - and that's why they put the biggest cops available on the ticket and shut down any talk about Medicare for all.

Oh, yeah, I share this question / frustration, but that particular tool - even if it were to be used against Trump (already a nigh impossible circumstance) it would only ever again be used against marginalized people.

Agreed! I think the situation is analogous to the US and Soviets in WWII. We're fighting the same enemy, the side with fewer casualties will still take credit for the victory, and we go back to being mortal enemies afterward.

Right, of course, I agree entirely. But as much as electoralism isn't the solution, it's also not ground we can afford to cede. Without some cooperation between liberals, progressives, and leftists, outright fascists have that much easier a time consolidating power.
