Facebook is showing me ads for T shirts that say “GAY SINCE WHAM!” and ads for apartments for rent in Washington State. For the record I have no plans to move out of state, and thanks to Tarzan I was gay before Wham! — although I do remember being mesmerized by some of their videos on MTV.

A fun and thoughtful gift from friend Cliff Biggers, who knows I’ve been a Perry Mason fan since I was a kid. There was a short-lived Perry Mason comic strip in the 1950s, and this book has 4 complete murder mysteries that appeared in the comics section of newspapers 1950-1951. Thanks, Cliff!

Brachiosaurus by Czech painter and paleoartist Zdeněk Burian (1905-1981) Now believed to be historically incorrect (Brachiosaurus was terrestrial, not aquatic) but the artwork is still a classic.

The Crooked Man is my favorite Hellboy series from the comic books. It’s Appalachian folk horror, which I love. This new movie will be a horror movie starring Hellboy, not a typical Hellboy movie. With @cgolden.bsky.social as one of the screenwriters, this will be awesome.

It fit in very well with the flow of the story, though. Now I have to decide where the other plot points will go, or if they’re even necessary. I feel like my characters are deciding the plot, not me. Reminds me of what Patti Smith said about writing, “You don’t follow plots, you negotiate them.”
