Despite recent amendments, #Slovakia’s new broadcasting bill still threatens media independence. With key appointments controlled by the ruling coalition, the bill could breach the European Media Freedom Act #EMFA.

On 23 May, Ignacio Rosaslanda of the daily Berliner Zeitung was assaulted by Berlin police while covering a protest at Humboldt-Universität.

ECPMF strongly condemns this attack. Violence against journalists is unacceptable, especially from the state ⬇️

On 23 May, reporters from independent media outlet Telex were blocked from a public press conference of Minister Péter Szijjártó, while other journalists were allowed.

ECPMF condemns this discrimination as a direct violation of media freedom.

A reform of the defamation law remains nowhere in sight in spite of a recommendation by Italy’s highest court, with Meloni’s govt last month postponing a parliamentary debate on a bill supposed to end the criminalisation of journalists accused of defamation.
