That is indeed the case. The R Foundation / CRAN were on the case finding something affordable. Here, these are registered a 'data' artifacts (as software doesn't really fit the DOI model) at what I am told are about $2 per package.

`tinyplot` is now available on CRAN. 🎉

tl;dr `tinyplot` is a super lightweight extension of the base #rstats graphics system that makes it easy to draw sophisticated plots with minimal overhead. See our website for more examples and a detailed intro tutorial. grantmcdermott.com/tinyplot/

It is there now and has been for a few days. Try any package at CRAN on its CRAN package and it is there now, as it is in what tools::CRAN_package_db() returns.

What is the German word for the sequence of (eventually) accommodating a 'connection request' on that other rather silly platform only to unfollow that very person within days as the posts are insufferable? Maybe "LinkedInVerknuepfungsReueWenigeTageSpaeter" ? Not quite a word. Please send help.

I fear I may spend inordinate amounts of time on this page between now and November (as an occasionally complaining subscriber).

Chaka’s Tiny Desk is amazing (of course!) but my only quibble is we didn’t get to see her play any instruments. I wanna see Chaka on the drums! Also interesting that she didn’t do “I Feel For You”; very few artists have a song that big. Almost none would omit it from a set. youtu.be/Gse1LKXuV2M?...

I posted about this over on mastodon in a thrice updated post so here is the summarized and updated gist: We now get both *Deadline* (!!) and (where available already) *DOI* in the CRAN db returned. The screenshot has the goods. #rstats

TIL: If you absentmindedly forgot to split the sourdougher starter / flour / water mix you prepared the previous evening you end up with too much 'wet' mix requiring about a third more flour to make up for the non-separated starter. And get two breads instead of one. Life could be worse.

#r2u update: we now shipped 20 million .deb packages containing CRAN packages making #Rstats deployment and testing on Ubuntu faster, easier and more reliable.

#r2u: Easy. Fast. Reliable. Pick all three.

As someone who still has a strong streak of Dream-of-the-90s Web in their bones it's a bit demoralizing to find the AI Search-Summarize-Slop Loop seriously confronting me with the question of why I, or anyone, should ever again write anything of substance that's just freely available online.

And of course also the following. Only do discourse in one-line sentences. Which are separated as distinct paragraphs. Because apparently one assumes the readership to be incapable of consuming _two_ sentences. It. Drives. Me. Up. The. Wall. But we already agreed that LinkedIn is the worst.

The actual update step then brings in a few updated system utilities (docker, brave, ...) as well as a handful of CRAN #Rstats packages including one of mine.

This newer gets old: wake the laptop up from a slumber of a few days, say `wajig update` to see things `apt` learned about and using `wajig new` what has been added --- which via #r2u is the set of new-at-CRAN #Rstats packages since the last time this ran.

I endorse r2u in the **strongest** possible terms. It's a game changer for Ubuntu+R workflows, especially when you need to deploy fast.

Just lovely when the term is over, grades are ready and I get my weekends back. Here's to a quick three hour ride featuring the lovel 606, lakefront north to Sheridan, then down to 31st, up Halsted and back as I used to (occassionally) bike commute when I worked in the loop. Gorgeous day for it.

We follow CRAN and keep current versions. In theory, `apt` can use a package pool so we may use calendar-based PACKAGES files together with matching R indices. I will leave that to the next developer. What we have here works *fabulously* for standard use. You can also 'freeze' your container image.

R 4.4.0 has long been at the CRAN mirror for Ubuntu, so it is just a matter of `apt update -qqq; apt upgrade -y`, or a container rebuild. I am busy (and very close) with 24.04 and BioC 3.19 which is 'there' but needs a little more polish. I will soon update all three containers for it.

I.e. this Dockerfile (where I use `install.r` over `Rscript -e 'install.packages(...)'` as it is shorter) run in 43 seconds.

If you base your container on r2u you can write `install.packages()` listing the #Rstats packages. `bspm` then _resolves all R packages by installing the apt package and their dependencies_ via the integration to the system manager.

#r2u. Fast. Easy, Reliable.

The Journal of Archaeological Science (JAS) now does a "reproducibility review" as part of the submission process: www.elsevier.com/connect/how-... If your manuscript mentions using an open source programming language, it will get this review, in addition to the normal peer reviews.
