Currently traveling and readng Rick Perlstein's "Nixonland" (following @kevinmkruse.bsky.social 's "One Nation under God" earlier, and Royko's "Boss" about Daley last year). Did not expect these to be so damn descriptive of current times.

That is indeed the case. The R Foundation / CRAN were on the case finding something affordable. Here, these are registered a 'data' artifacts (as software doesn't really fit the DOI model) at what I am told are about $2 per package.

Chaka’s Tiny Desk is amazing (of course!) but my only quibble is we didn’t get to see her play any instruments. I wanna see Chaka on the drums! Also interesting that she didn’t do “I Feel For You”; very few artists have a song that big. Almost none would omit it from a set. youtu.be/Gse1LKXuV2M?...

TIL: If you absentmindedly forgot to split the sourdougher starter / flour / water mix you prepared the previous evening you end up with too much 'wet' mix requiring about a third more flour to make up for the non-separated starter. And get two breads instead of one. Life could be worse.

And of course also the following. Only do discourse in one-line sentences. Which are separated as distinct paragraphs. Because apparently one assumes the readership to be incapable of consuming _two_ sentences. It. Drives. Me. Up. The. Wall. But we already agreed that LinkedIn is the worst.

This newer gets old: wake the laptop up from a slumber of a few days, say `wajig update` to see things `apt` learned about and using `wajig new` what has been added --- which via #r2u is the set of new-at-CRAN #Rstats packages since the last time this ran.

20.7k CRAN packages, and 400+ BioConductor packages as `apt` binaries with fast and full resolution of all dependencies.

We follow CRAN and keep current versions. In theory, `apt` can use a package pool so we may use calendar-based PACKAGES files together with matching R indices. I will leave that to the next developer. What we have here works *fabulously* for standard use. You can also 'freeze' your container image.

R 4.4.0 has long been at the CRAN mirror for Ubuntu, so it is just a matter of `apt update -qqq; apt upgrade -y`, or a container rebuild. I am busy (and very close) with 24.04 and BioC 3.19 which is 'there' but needs a little more polish. I will soon update all three containers for it.

If you base your container on r2u you can write `install.packages()` listing the #Rstats packages. `bspm` then _resolves all R packages by installing the apt package and their dependencies_ via the integration to the system manager.
