I don't have any inside info about the search process beyond what is in the paper but if this position is indeed community facing, then they should have at the very least to clearly think it through before making an offer. Raz doesn't hide this views, so it is the university that screwed up

The fear is that it wasn’t a “screw up”; that the relevant decisionmakers made this hire bc of, not in spite of, the thumb in the eye to the Jewish community it is being taken as. If that’s the case, it’s hard to say the problem was a process failure—the process would’ve worked exactly as intended.

Yup. The article mentions community input (not veto) in the process back in 2012. Not sure why the change, but I can't blame the community for stepping back in disgust. If Jewish/Holocaust studies at unis becomes a weapon against survivors & Jews, why should the Jews stick around? 🤷🏻‍♀️
