Even assuming arguendo there’s a lever that “elites” could pull to “force” Biden to drop out, it is orders of magnitude more difficult than the pressure equivalent of a stiff breeze needed to convince Cory Booker to not keep on running when faced w/ample evidence nobody except me was voting for him.

Oh please. The “party elites” didn’t do jack about a Bernie nomination. The notion that it took some Herculean coordinated effort of the party elites to yield “non-viable candidates progressively drop out of race”—which is the sum total of the alleged anti-Bernie “intervention”—is silly.

I've been railing for awhile about the dangers of "us too-ism" as a template for fighting antisemitism -- basically, taking what one (usually wrongly) imagines "every other group" gets when they claim discrimination, and then saying "us too!" The Columbia text msg scandal is another illustration.

And the gallery's justification really is just that the artist posted shortly after 10/7 mourning the victims (if you think that an artist who isn't Israeli and posted on, say, Darfur but not Palestinians is having her exhibition cancelled, I have a lovely collection of bridges for sale).

The lesson that we Americans must learn from France is this: You GO OUT, VOTE IN LARGE NUMBERS, VOTE STRATEGICALLY, VOTE WITH BRAIN, YOU SUCCEED & WIN! Period. End of story. Is the French Left-wing coalition perfect? No, by a mile, but it’s a HELL OF LOT BETTER than the Neo-Nazis in suits & ties.

Am I thrilled that Labour thrashed the Tories on Thursday? Yes. Am I feeling a sinful amount of pleasure watching diehard Corbynistas cope that it was Keir Starmer who led Labour to this landslide? Yes. Is FPTP *maybe* not ideal for reflecting true voter preferences in a multiparty democracy? Yes.

The demise of Chevron won't destroy the administrative state in its entirety. It will do so in an ad hoc and arbitrary fashion centered on those areas where judges have particular idiosyncratic or partisan axes to grind. Does that make you feel better?

(2) While the whole lawsuit is, to reiterate, racist garbage, individually suing the law review editors (the suit says it's an "official capacity" suit, but that's for suits against govt entities, which NW is not) is an especially thuggish act of intimidation even aside from the knockout 1A defense.

The Northwestern Law lawsuit is absolute racist garbage, as many others have stated. I'll add two things: (1) I warned after SFFA that this case will functionally place a quota on minority hires/admissions -- admit more than "should" be present and you risk a lawsuit. That's what this suit is.

It's also true even if you *credit* Roberts' own self-conceptualization as an "institutionalist". On that metric -- preserving and maintaining the perception and dignity of the Court as a dispassionate citadel of law -- it is hard to imagine someone who has failed as spectacularly as he has.

I genuinely like Joe Biden and think he's been on the whole an exceptionally strong president, and I do not get this sentiment (which -- to forestall the obvious retort -- well predates 10/7 and so cannot remotely be chalked up to Israel and Gaza).

One of the hallmarks of the Trump Court is its penchant for making giant alterations to huge swaths of settled law based on abstract conceptual theories, and then sitting back and letting lower courts deal with the chaos they've unleashed. I've called it "Leaving the Mess for Later."

The moral of the Bowman/Latimer primary is not that "pro-Israel = good politics", or that AIPAC money overwhelms the actual will of the people and destroys democracy. It's that all politics is local. The folks who want you to read more into it than that are selling you a bill of goods.

These aren’t unrelated of course—we see widespread social protests against Israel but not Russia in part bc for the latter the US govt is already doing the thing, so protest is kinda moot (but query whether, in a Trump admin that flips the policy, we’ll see the e resurgence of anti-Russia protests).
