I turn 33 this Saturday, but I'm *still* learning and growing as a queer man. Growth is vital for the LGBTQ+ community to flourish. We are all one big family and we have to watch for one another. Happy Pride Month, everybody!

We like to have fun here, but Pride is crucial for everyone in the LGBTQ+ community. Pride is about not having to hide who you are. It's about being able to express yourself while others cheer you on. It's about honoring our queer ancestors who helped us get to where we are today.

The friends I had then and now have been incredibly helpful to me before and after coming out. I had an amazing support system. I can never thank them enough for that. I hope that I could be that support for others, especially those who hadn't come out yet.

My (in retrospect, stupid) decision was the catalyst that got me to be brave enough to tell Mom that I was gay. In the end, it all turned out to be fine. I have conflicted feelings about that summer in general, but it really helped me develop as a newly-out gay man.

The night before this, I made one of the worst decisions of my life, though I didn't know it at the time. It would destroy one of the better friendships I had. I still kick myself over it, but I know now that it wasn't entirely my fault. I'm still angry about it.

Ten years ago today, I came out to my mother. She was very upset with me when I told her that morning. That evening, she cried and told me how Dad would find a way to blame her for me being gay. Mom got over it three weeks later. Years later, she met Will, and she loved him.
