It is okay to be a *fan* of your own work and not just its begging salesman, just startled to tears that anyone could possibly enjoy your personal brand of nonsense. You don't have to be self-deprecating about the dope shit you do.
I absolutely agree -- but there's a weird vibe with this popping up during the middle of discourse about authors leaving themselves 5 star reviews, which is a mostly pointless way of expressing it. (Not your fault! Just a strange juxtaposition)
This is something I wrestle with.
It’s my hope that everyone enjoys their own work, or at the very least, is encouraged enough by their progress to keep working at their chosen craft.
An artist (of any kind) is usually their own first and most passionate fan.
Adding the caveat that it is not okay to engage in unhinged behavior in the name of being a fan of your own work since this is the internet where someone will inevitably be committed to misunderstanding wtf I'm saying here
💯 If I don't like what I make... why am I making it? Fine to have self critiques and great to always have areas where you want to improve, but it's damn important to like what you create.
