Comic artist, among other things. Elder punk. Dog dad. Do good recklessly.
If you make art, I'll almost certainly follow you.

How accurate is the weather forecast in your city?

Niko Kommenda and I learned that NWS just began doing gridded assessments of forecast accuracy. We got the data and mapped of how many days into the future they get within 3°F of the observed high temp.

It's very hard to make art in a society where it is deeply ingrained that the serious work of your life is making money for other people and taking care of your loved ones, and art is a slightly self-indulgent hobby for yourself.

The only trouble I see is that it's nearly impossible to choose who to follow there because there isn't a "follow literally everyone, they're all amazing" button.

I've seen a lot of social & art-specific sites/apps come and go in the last 25 years. Cara has more potential than anything (other than maybe early Insta, long before Meta bought it) to be the daywalker of social media for artists. Something really big and special is happening, and I'm all in.

It's not illegal (in the US) for Adobe to have terms like this. That's the whole point of a EULA - the user has to agree to whatever bullshit terms there are in order to use the software. Adobe's legal rebuttal is just "well you don't *have* to agree or use our software." That's EULA by design.

I like this kind of piggyback-copyright/co-branding. Art thieves will think twice about facing the entire legal team of Marriott. I think you just cut AI off at the knees with this genius idea.

[DR MANHATTAN VOICE] It is 2008. I have joined Twitter. I feel joy at impromptu chats with friends and fans around the world. The future is bright. It is 2024. No link out from social media ever works. I am hounded by Russian propaganda bots. My entire life’s work has been scraped and copied by AI

Even if we are to believe everything they're saying (I don't), it would still be difficult to trust a company that accidentally F's up their terms update so badly. Do they not have a (multi-million dollar) legal team. Do they not have proofreaders and a QA process.

You know what I don't miss about the tweet site? Waking up each morning to another "who are we mad at today" fight. Especially the art community in-fighting. We don't need to start that shit here too.

No, Cara is just fine. People need to stop and think about who benefits from smear campaigns like this. Meta has a *lot* to lose if Cara grows. Important to take a moment to consider if we're being duped into doing Meta's dirty work for them.

One of the worst aspects of Web2.0 is how people became convinced that they have to go where they are told, use what they're told (by big tech) to use, and that the web is a small set of Big Corp walled gardens.

Agree, with the caveat that we can vote and contact our reps AND discuss things amongst ourselves all at the same time. And most do.

I wouldn't call Meta and Google and such owners. They've spread garbage content like a mudslide over most of the web, but I think calling them owners of something they merely exploit cedes too much power to them. They want us to think it is theirs, but it isn't.

More like family-friendly, in the sense that everyone knew adults would get just as much (if not more) out of them than kids. Muppets were always good at that sort of broad appeal.

Not a new take at all, but... I miss the internet when it was 80% blogs and personal sites. Now it's 99.9% shopping. Search (regardless of which engine you use) is overwhelmed with product pages, and now faux AI is polluting the mix even more and it's nearly impossible to actually find anything.

While not as bad as Google telling people to ingest poison, eat deadly mushrooms, or jump off bridges, I just search a comic book and Google suggested this question and answer that completely misses the point of the article it is taken from.

The folks concerned about what is and isn't "real" punk are the only ones who are, in fact, not punk. Also, Dookie was punk AF.

I see HumbleBundle is again doing the thing where I lose my mind about how good a comic book deal is, only to realize I own all of it in some form accumulated across many years

But hey! ALL of BPRD (and I think all of Hellboy too) for like ~$35.

That’s
A
Lot

I can directly correlate my general happiness index on any given day to how long it has been since my last Star Trek DS9 rewatch. Likewise with Big Trouble in Little China, and Empire Strikes Back. They're not the only or the biggest factors, but the data is pretty clear.

She's one of the very few in Congress that gives me some optimism and hope that we'll be OK. And the massive amount of hate she gets from regressives shows how much of a threat AOC poses to their backsliding ideologies. When MTG doesn't like you, you're doing it right.
