In the specific case of Eccleston I have a lot of sympathy all around, because the issues seem to have basically come down to “it was just a huge production on a comparative shoestring budget done by people working at a scale they’d never done before.”

Yes. I suspect I'd take Eccleston's side were all the facts in, but I think RTD has been very classy in saying "I have a duty of care to my cast, that doesn't end when they quit the show, so I can't and won't give my side".
