Worse (3), I think. He doesn’t understand the game at the instinctual/animal level his father does, so he doesn’t have the same charismatic hold on people. He has to substitute overt displays of cruelty and anger to try to replicate it, but that is obviously calculated and not as effective.

In the aftermath of a society-level trauma like 9/11, art made for a small, intimate audience lands; very good poetry, short stories, photography reflected on 9/11 pretty early. It’s just too big a thing, still, to work into longer fiction because it instantly overwhelms the story it’s in. Imo.

My MIL's doctor did this, emailed a his patient list of like 250 people with a sales pitch for his girlfriend's massage business. Which is bad even as a bcc but he forgot to even do that much, and then the next day an email came out from the practice saying he had left to pursue other opportunities
