Who is the craven motherfucker in the insurance industry that said, "hey, here's an unserved market -- churches that can't stop raping kids. Let's create a comprehensive policy for them."

If it weren't for my neighbors setting them off across the street, I'd probably even be able to sleep.

To be fair, this sounds like a fraction of the volume of illegal fireworks we've had in recent years around here. Still a ton of the damn things, but an improvement is an improvement.

Godzilla vs. Biollante is a bit overlong with too many (human) characters. That said, it's a cheesy, fun Kaiju fantasy that re-establishes Godzilla as existing in a world bigger and weirder than him alone. In short, a huge improvement over its immediate predecessor. 📽️

Never forget that the early church appropriated Christmas in July from the pagans to trick them into converting.

Between her, Merida, and Elsa there's a strong argument for a Princess Secret Wars.

By the time you hear about allegations, they've been heavily vetted to the point there's VERY little likelihood what you're hearing is wrong.
If there's more than one accuser, "very little" drops to "functionally none."
As always, believe the victims.

I was woken at 5AM this morning by a loud explosion.
I hate this holiday so much.

Looking forward to being kept awake all night because a bunch of drunken morons are setting off explosives.
That's not sarcasm. I'm actually kind of looking forward to it. I've got plans: I thought I'd try and get some writing done. Maybe watch a movie, too.

This is all too complicated. I'm just going to show my kid Independence Day and tell her that's the true origin of the holiday.

It's the 4th of July, so let's all take a moment to think about the worst quasi-adaptation of A Christmas Carol ever put on film. 📽️

Chicken for Linda!, a highly stylized French animated movie, is streaming on Criterion, and it's all kinds of fantastic. Kind of like watching a 70's cartoon expanded to feature length with complex emotions and whimsical humor.

The 80's and 90's Godzilla movies have long been a blind spot for me, so I'm thrilled a handful popped up on Criterion.
The Return of Godzilla is visually cool but kind of dull due to a tone that feels like it's trying too hard to avoid the sillier feel of the Showa era.

The hardest part about having a kid is you won't have time to see a third of the movies you want to watch before they leave the Criterion Channel.
Astonishingly, this isn't even in the parenting books.

*Valkoinen peura isn't actually a Christmas movie. But it looks like one, everyone should watch it, there aren't a lot of Christmas movies starting with the letter 'V', and honestly I found Violent Night kind of underwhelming.

Immediately saw an article after posting this suggesting I might be drastically underestimating the odds of Biden stepping down in the near future.
For those wondering if I ever get tired of being wrong, the answer is, "No, it's still fun and exciting."

FWIW I suspect Biden would be more likely to gracefully step down AFTER winning the election than before.
I'm not saying either is likely or impossible, but I feel like that'd be the path of least resistance for anyone whose objective is "anyone but these two guys."

If Biden steps down now, I'll support Harris or whoever. But I'm skeptical it's going to happen, and I'm skeptical it would increase the odds the democrats would win given how close we are to the election.
