I don’t think reporters should speculate either! Balance always a tougher thing to figure out what’s right — but many people seem to merely be doing a lot of whataboutism in reference the very real concerns many Americans have about the current US President and major party nominee

So much of the media criticism on here is extremely unserious. I’m begging you to spend ten minutes reading up on the role journalists see themselves playing and the process by which they do that — and remember that wild speculation is a bridge to conspiracy theories.

Also if you're mad at those outlets for publishing scientifically conducted polls that say many people also want this, or don't like that candidate, or feel any such way that makes you sad or angry -- you also don't actually like journalism

I say this as a member of the media: You don’t have to watch the debate, you won’t learn anything and it won’t matter whether you saw it live or not. Have a beer, call a friend, make a pizza, for the love of god, just stare at the wall for a couple hours. You’ll be better off.

I reported on this a few months ago! Flavor is up to both genetics and the specific growing conditions of each variety (meaning one variety may taste good in one area but not another) — and tomato scientists know that we’re all chasing the high of a delicious tomato

I like to tell researchers that answering the questions “What is the problem?” and “What is the solution, or how are we finding out the solution?” is a great, natural way of beginning to turn research into a narrative story. And hoo boy do people love stories.

No good reporter will let you see their story before it’s published, especially if you’re a source in it, and yes, even if that source is a researcher who wishes to do a mere “fact check.” If the reporter offers to send to a draft, be skeptical of their skills as a reporter.
