I always use an e-collar when I have my dogs off-leash — mostly because recall goes to shit the moment one of them scents a deer.

(Oh, and as I'm sure you know, we had months and months of focused training BEFORE the collar was carefully introduced. A lot of idiots strap on one, think the dog is now remote-controlled, and do a lot of damage.)

Same. I have a 19 month old heeler and it's always on him. He calls off deer like a dream, but deer carcasses? Problem. If he blows of a recall I page him first. Haven't zapped him in months. Gave me the ability to have him off leash at 10 months, which he was desperate for.
