But if wealth is the best proxy for power, then, I argue, *time* is the best proxy for freedom -- and the theft of time is just as central to slavery as the theft of wealth.

Just posted this super-brief preprint that empirically shows that racial differences in the sibling correlation in schooling result from differences in the influence of extended, not immediate, family.

B/W gaps in multigenerational wealth transmission are even more staggering (see below). Reminds me I should upload the SocForces Online Appendix somewhere more accessible!

And also look out for excellent work underway by Doron Shiffer-Sebba and Limor Gabay Egozi. They use the PSID in novel ways to look at the concentration of wealth within "family clans". They may be willing to share their current working paper!

You’ve heard of the (debated) summer learning gap. We look at the summer parental investment gap. Joe LaBriola and I find larger SES gaps during the summer, and larger gaps for younger school-age children than older children. 🧵

Just one example of the vast dispossession of Black households in the US (watch the video for more!): Since 2000 more than 1 in 3 properties in Detroit have gone into tax foreclosure, incl. because of inflated tax assessments. (h/t to Jasmin Simington for gathering the data)! /2
