Must be large. But I will check thanks. There are other issues with the data that make me more confident with mundlak; we couldn’t get the (ordered!) logit model estimated with all these schools in the data. And the idea of differencing illustrates the problem … (lefthand side)

thanks. Yes that 1948 paper I also bumped into, and papers by Fernandez-Val, among which a stata journal paper. So my vague hunch that there was a problem is confirmed. Good I did something else.
