Humans in the real world just don’t freak out about threats in the relatively logical, comprehensible way that they’re portrayed freaking out about things (alien invasions, fascist takeovers, mutant robots) in most mass media.

To be fair, "don't make us kill you" is the kind of threat you make in advance when you don't think you've got victory sewn up. We need to be sounding the alarm, yes, but this is also an indication of weaknesses on their part.
