Humans in the real world just don’t freak out about threats in the relatively logical, comprehensible way that they’re portrayed freaking out about things (alien invasions, fascist takeovers, mutant robots) in most mass media.

Everyone watching any Bond movie: this is utterly unrealistic, no one would stand there and say exactly how they were going to do some awful thing, the Incredibles even made a joke about monologuing. Everyone experiencing reality: Oh. Oh, I see.

i recently was talking to a guy on here that said those folks were a minority in the DSA which i found comforting, but maybe every chapter is different :(

conservatives saying they need to reflect and that they're sorry and, you know, admitting they lost. i like it, UK, can we get some of that over here?

Another hot take I have is that LGBT people are to some degree experiencing cognitive dissonance because for a long time it made a lot of sense to identify with counterculture all the time if you were gay or trans because basically you needed people who tolerated Generally Unacceptable Things

i know things seems scary here in the Global North and we use the term "doomed" and "cooked" and "hellscape" a lot but i will say, my neighbor from Nigeria likes it better here in the US bc here she doesn't worry about getting kidnapped constantly bc it was happening all the time apparently?

If your area got a new Labour MP then it is your duty to email them and say that you are happy the Tories are out but that transphobia should have no place in the party. Make Starmer gently walk back his support for Rowling's position!

also their famous TERFs were prominent feminists with Guardian bylines, is my understanding? like. i'm trying to name a post-second wave clique of feminists with name recognition. there are names I know, but no one on a Gertrude Stein level. then again ihni if Bindel et al are on that level there

part of this also may come down to tribalism. transphobia is the Religious Right's domain and they're not our team. UK doesn't have a RR. their transphobia comes from the "left" aka TERF shit; i saw someone else say that today, no RR means it's a wedge for the left and right(???).

this is the NYT laundering documents provided by a professional bigot to scandalize a completely non-scandalous thing bc the times has decided that the organization founded to stop gay parents from adopting kids is actually right in their bigotry and every major medical association is wrong

the times’ willing participation in a right-wing Christianist assault on the human rights of a small minority is one of the most disgraceful chapters in its history. absolutely sickening

Then there’s the other class of people, real Democrats, who are just scared. I talk to dozens of these people every day on the doors in my district. They don’t know what the best path is, they’re desperate to win, and it’s not making them reckless, it’s making them CAUTIOUS.

In other words the hysteria is being largely fed by reckless people whose objective isn’t beating Trump, but tanking Biden, and are thus being totally uncautious with their words, claims, and accusations. E.g., is Biden just old, or does he have dementia? Many people don’t seem to care, really.

It’s maddening to see skepticism of ejecting Biden treated like cultish loyalty. Some of us have been out here saying Biden’s too old for years. The problem is that what is being proposed is a shocking, almost unheard-of remedy, and every historic precedent tells us it’ll end in catastrophe.

I wrote this in 2018, and a similar dynamic is going on today. The DNC is an organization that Black Democrats have gained a lot of representation in and strength over. And media calls for Democrats to just have a do-over are a way of de-legitimizing all of that. www.vox.com/mischiefs-of...

a convention just isn't democratic. i mean. i guess it kind of is since we voted for those electors? but we voted for them as proxies for the candidates we voted for. we chose Biden/Harris, so it should be Biden and/or Harris.
